Neutral Milk Hotel – Phoenix Theatre, Petaluma, CA – June 11, 2015

Here is my recording of Neutral Milk Hotel playing Phoenix Theatre, Petaluma, CA on June 11, 2015. Overall I would rate the quality as excellent, with the only issues being faithfully representative of the sound that night. I will seed the partial Robert Schneider recording sometime in the future. In the mean time please enjoy this second source for the last Neutral Milk Hotel gig “for the foreseeable future.” Recording notes and details follow the download links below.

I offer up no apologies for taking a while on seeding this. A recording of this show popped up nearly instantly after Neutral Milk Hotel delivered what may well have been their final show. To the best of my knowledge that recording is anonymous but was seeded by the user BLG in multiple formats and locations around the web. It’s a great quality recording, but it does have a few drawbacks in my opinion. Namely the crowd noise is pretty hefty – it sounds like the taper was right up in front. The vocals and high frequency content are also slightly drowned out. I hadn’t been to this venue before but guessed over-powering bass might be an issue and preemptively enabled the filter on my battery box. That turned out to be a pretty good decision. I also recorded about the second half or so of opener Robert Schneider’s set, which allowed me to get a decent level check and set prior to NMH taking stage. A few moments of 0 dB clipping occurred due to some heartfelt applause which I have cleaned up in this master.

I was seated in the front row of the balcony, dead center. Thanks to the prime location, the filter, and 24/96 recording I am very pleased with this recording. I accidentally stopped recording just at the completion of In The Aeroplane Over The Sea (at 3:09). I missed about 10 seconds, but to gracefully mask this I have spliced in 25 seconds worth of audio from the other (anonymous) recording of this show which was originally seeded by BLG. Thanks for sharing!

Beck – The Masonic, San Francisco, CA – September 19, 2014

It is with great pleasure I present to you another great Beck recording of his sold out show re-opening night at San Francisco’s The Masonic. Once again, I had some level issues during the opening song which was (once again) The Golden Age. While I fiddled with the wrong dial the first couple minutes, I also accidentally cut out 5-10 seconds of audio around 2:40. Once I started recording again, I found the correct dial, and adjusted the gain to get a perfect level for the remainder of the set. You can hear this transition point at 3:02.

Beck – Uptown Amphitheatre, Charlotte, NC – July 11, 2014

A friend of mine recorded this show using a simple rig to an iPhone, and asked if I could help clean it up and get it seeded. The sound is definitely listenable but more than likely a “collectors only” category recording. If this doesn’t scare you off, click ahead and enjoy Beck playing Uptown Amphitheatre at the NC Music Factory, Charlotte, NC on July 11, 2014.

Rasputina – April 13, 2012 – Ottobar, Baltimore, MD

I can’t even articulate how excited I am to be able to share this one with you. I saw Rasputina on (Friday) April 13th at the Ottobar in Baltimore. Thanks to Rasputina’s tour manager, Gabe, I was able to get a soundboard patch out. Amazingly, despite a recorder malfunction and a month of believing this recording was lost forever I had the help of joemck and was able to recover the data, and bring this show to you in it’s entirety. The vocals and high band were pretty hot in the mix, but I’ve done some EQ work and the resulting sound is excellent.

Please note: if you attempt to sell this recording I will track you down, slay thee, and drink blood from thy skull.

Enjoy!

The Mountain Goats – April 14, 2011 – Ottobar, Baltimore, MD

Here’s my recording of The Mountain Goats at the Ottobar on April 14, 2011. This show was all kinds of amazing. I will let the recording speak for itself.  Unfortunately, I had a recorder mic input issue which caused some loss of stereo in my recording. I have made a best effort to clean this up by replacing these instances with dual mono. In some cases I have removed portions of the audio. The vast majority of this (luckily) occured in between songs. Overall, the audio quality is excellent. This show may not be sold under any cirumstances.

Explosions In The Sky @ 2640 Space, Baltimore, MD – September 2, 2010 [UPDATE 1: Recording Info]

Explosions In The Sky recently announced a small handful of US dates, presumably a warmup for their upcoming album / ensuing tour. They played to a sold out crowd of about 600 people in a hollowed out church in the historic district of downtown Baltimore, and I was lucky enough to get a ticket last minute. What more can I say. The Mountain Goats – March 14, 2010 – The Social, Orlando, FL [UPDATED SETLIST]

Sorry it took me so long to get this one up, but I wanted to make sure to get this master perfect, and work was pretty crazy the last month. John played this solo set as a makeup for a show cancelled the year prior, which was due to illness. He made up a point of letting us know how much he hates doing that, and assured us it was absolutely necessary. Lucky for us, he made it up by putting on an amazing show for us – a 90 minute set with no pre-determined setlist and many requests. And yes, oh yes, there was No Children played (thanks to “teratomamok” of tmg forums for providing the Capo, without which, said song would not have been possible)! Bear In Heaven @ Will’s Pub Orlando March 13 2010 [UPDATED]

Sorry for the delay on this one. Without further ado, the original post and your download links. Please enjoy!

Unlike my friend quitepeculiar, I am not big on giving “live reviews,” but I must say Bear In Heaven‘s performance last night at Will’s Pub was shockingly good. If you know me, then you probably know that Beast Rest Forth Mouth was one of my top records of 2009. Despite my usualy giving the benefit of the doubt for first time seeing bands perform, I typically don’t expect much and am not disappointed when that’s what I get. I love being wrong about this! The sound was brilliant and clear, and the band gave an energetic performance of nine of the ten tracks from the above mentioned sophomore record. They also had fun and managed to keep us entertained with some good humor even during some technical difficulty with a guitar, and all this when apparently one of the members had come down with food poisoning.

Luckily for you, I make up for my lack of a proper review with something (I claim is) even better! A recording of the whole show.

Note: The vocals are a bit muffled during first song, keep listening though. After this minor setback the sound quality is fantastic (sample included below).
